Garrett French Returns

As those of you who read this blog are probably aware, last Friday was a bad day at work. It marked the third round of large-scale layoffs in the past year. I’ve already gone into as much detail as I care to on the subject, save for one additional point. Unlike the other layoffs, the last one involved terminating several individuals who I would describe as the heart and soul of the company.

One such individual was Garrett French. Some of you may already know him as the author of Search Engine Lowdown. I think it fair to say he was a voice in the industry, and a powerful one at that. SEL managed to get linked from almost every major search blog around, including the Official Google Blog, Battelle Media, the Yahoo Search Blog, the Ask Blog, SEO Today, etc. The list really does go on. You don’t get that sort of reputation over night, and the loss of Garrett will no doubt be felt for many months to come.

In characteristic fashion, however, it seems Garrett has bounced back a new blog named GarrettFrench.com. For those with an interest in search marketing and social media, it’s bound to be a great read. Believe me when I say Garrett is the sort of blogger that I’d like to be one day, and that isn’t a compliment I give out lightly.

As for you, Garrett, I’m glad to see you took my advice; the blogosphere just wouldn’t be the same without you. Let me know if you want any help customizing your WordPress template, and good luck on the job hunt.
