New Year, New Home, New Job

It’s been a hectic two weeks since I found out that I got the job. We really had to hustle to find an apartment and get moved in before the end of December. Thankfully, all of our toil seems to have paid off. It’s a brand new year and we have a nice new apartment and a promising new job to settle into.

The apartment is more than we could have hoped for. It’s huge compared to the one we had when I was in college. My wife is particularly fond of the kitchen-related amenities. We used to suffer for counter space, and we had to wash and dry all of our dishes by hand. Now we’ve got ample room to cook and a dishwasher. We’ll be adding in a washer and drier soon, which I’m sure will make her a very happy homemaker.

I couldn’t really ask for more from my new job, either. It’s a stark contrast to my old one. It’s a warm, friendly, open environment, as opposed to the stressful, partitioned dungeon to which I had grown accustomed. The pay is great, the benefits are outstanding, and they cater lunch to their employees. The only real complaint I could lodge would be that the work is a bit understimulating, but I’m sure even that will pick up before long. It really isn’t the sort of opportunity that comes along every day, and I intend to make my employers glad that they hired me.

I can still vividly remember times over the past two years when I despaired our lives would never turn around. It’s almost like a dream to have so much good fortune thrust on me at once. Facing the reality of it all, I am resolved to keep things the way they are. That, if anything, is my New Year’s resolution, to make the most of what I’ve got. To do otherwise would be to ignore all of the hard times my family and I suffered to get here.
