Back to Reality

August 15, 2005Stephen Ward

This weekend was a blast, even for being so unbearably hot. I didn’t make any large strides towards my character’s goals, but I didn’t suffer any big set-backs either. I even got to do some extreme roleplaying when the town was destroyed by the dark army (in-play, of course, not for real). All in all, it was a very immersive and enjoyable weekend of fantasy.

Of course, all good things must come to an end, and the fun dies down as soon as the weekend is finished. I and my fellow gamers are cast back into mundanity, dreaming of our fantastic experiences and counting down the days until the next event. For some of us, the wait can seem like an eternity.

Oh well, it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun if we did it all the time. Human beings can only appreciate the things that they love through contrast, and so heavy doses of reality are necessary. It’s only when real life circumstances prevent us from having any fun at all that we should be truly unhappy.

Whatever the case, only 32 more days until the next event…
