Geek Picture

August 28, 2006Stephen Ward

Last week, the guys over at Search Engine Lowdown decided to write a satirical post about the Anti-Geekery League, a made-up organization out to combat geeky practices wherever they are found. JP was the first up, and it was hilarious. More significantly, however, nobody was able to answer his trivia question (which, to the best of my knowledge, would have required extensive knowledge of the Silmarilion).

This was such a wonderful affirmation of geekery, I couldn’t help myself. So last Friday I decided to have my own run-in with the AGL. The picture below should say it all. Jennifer and I had a little photo shoot with me, the dice bag, a D&D book, and my old LARPing gear (complete with prosthetic elf ears). I really do think anyone would be hard-pressed to look geekier than this.

[…] Some of you may remember that I was once arrested for wearing my geeky costume, so I would advise caution even during Halloween. Our kind, from the humble tabletop RPG geek to MMORPG geek to the full-blown LARPing geek, are misunderstood at best. If you give them too much geekiness at once, they might just give you a $25 gift certificate to Chili’s. Something to add? Share your comments on “A Good Excuse to Get in Costume” » […]
