You’ll usually find me defending the hobby of tabletop roleplaying games. I’m a nerd and a gamer, so I find most of the stereotypes surrounding Dungeons & Dragons to be very offensive. Most of the gamers I know, including myself, are intelligent, socially adept, well-adjusted people who have no problem with the opposite sex. In fact, many people would be surprised to find otherwise “normal” individuals spending their Saturday nights at the gaming table with their spouses. That being said, it helps to take a step back every once in awhile and realize how silly the hobby must seem to those who’ve never tried it. Fear of Girls is a fake documentary about two “elite roleplayers” that I found in a recent post on Slashdot. It’s a hilarious ten minutes of entertainment, especially if you understand what they’re talking about (and I do). It’s obvious to me that the video was put together by, or at least with the help of, actual players of the games mentioned. And while the elements of the video have an inkling of truth, particularly the attitudes of the brother and sister-in-law, it’s worth noting that the whole video is blown to comedic proportions. So, by all means, watch, laugh, and then disregard it as a poor representation of us real gamers. | ||||
