Little Big Town – Boondocks

I live in the city. I work at a white-collar desk job. Still, I have to admit that I went to a backwater high school in a rural county. Now, I can’t say that I’m proud of it, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a part of who I am. That’s how I feel when I hear Boondocks. The whole “Muddy water runnin’ through my veins” part says it all. You can’t get away from who you are or where you come from. Maybe that’s the whole reason I like any country music at all, much as I might try to deny it. ;)

Boondocks by Little Big Town

I feel no shame
I’m proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks

One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul
In the boondocks

I can feel that
Muddy water runnin’ through my veins
I can hear that
lullaby of the midnight train
And it sings to me and sounds familiar

I feel no shame
I’m proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks

One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul
In the boondocks

I can taste that honeysuckle
And it’s still so sweet
When it grows wild
On the banks down at old Camp Creek
And it calls to me like a warm wind blowin’

I feel no shame
I’m proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks

One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul
In the boondocks

It’s where I learned about livin’
Its where I learned about love
Its where I learned about working hard, and having to live was just enough
It’s where I learned about Jesus
And knowin’ where I stand
You can take it or leave it
This is me
This is who I am
Give me a tin roof, a front porch, and a gravel road
And thats home to me, feels like home to me

I feel no shame
I’m proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks

One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul
In the boondocks

You get a line I’ll get a pole
We’ll go fishin’ in the crawfish hole
Five card poker on Saturday night
Church on Sunday morning

It drives my husband crazy when I listen to country music. Boondocks really touches me because it reminds me of growing up in the deep South and hanging out with friends on river banks and creeks.
